The Chinese pronunciation of The People’s Republic of China is “Zhong Hua Ren Min Gong He Guo”. Many people know what “ZhongGuo”, China means but fewer people know what “ZhongHua”, the center of a flower does. ‘Zhong Hua’and ‘Zhong Guo’are quite different things. The first one means ‘the center of a flower’ while the second one ‘the kingdom within a kingdom’.

It was said that in 1991 the Chinese government suggested Taiwanese delegation to participate the 11th Asian Games under the name of ‘Zhong Guo Tai Bei’ that means Tai Bei of the kingdom within a kingdom, which was refused by Taiwanese side because they would like to be under the name of ‘Zhong Hua Tai Bei’ that means ‘Tai Bei at the center of a flower’. Why Chinese people mind ‘the center of a flower’ so much? It is a long traditional story. Chinese nation is a nation of offspring respecting. The nation, for example, even takes a female frog as its god because a female frog can give birth to a huge amount of tadpoles each time. The nation hope their offspring like tadpoles flourishing generation after generation all over the world. As far as I’m concerned, ‘Zhong Guo’ is a phrase of politics and ‘Zhong Hua’ is a phrase of tradition. Chinese people care about their tradition more than the politics.

The tradition of ‘the center of a flowers’ culture is rooted into the tomb of QinShiHuang emperor; the first person united the whole nation in Chinese history. The emperor’s tomb plot was chosen by a Taoist and located at the center of a Daoism lotus flower. QinShiHuang emperor thought he should not only be a dead body buried under the ground, rather, he should be a flower seed, which naturally came from the center of a flower, planted under his beloved land so that his subjects would like flourishing flowers growing up more and more.

Dear friends, it is very meaningful to take a visit to QinShiHuang emperor’s tomb.

英语故事

英语中表示笑的词汇很多：chuckle表示吃吃地笑, giggle表示傻笑、哈哈地笑, snicker表示窃笑, mockery表示嘲笑, titter表示嗤笑、偷笑、窃笑和傻笑，sneer是冷笑, grin是满脸堆笑。最常用地是 smile微笑和laugh大笑。
