英语故事

前文讲过，英语中动词与介词的搭配是英语中的精华。而英语中的俚语是日常会话中用得最多的语言。俚语使得英语多姿多彩、妙趣横生。汉语“踢”的对应英文是kick.但是，汉语中“走，咱们去踢足球去！”却不能翻译成：Let’s go kicking the soccer. 正确的说法应当是：Let’s go playing the soccer.

Kick这个词汇非常有趣。当您读到英文：FRENCH FASHION KICKS OFF IN THE ANCIENT CITY时，那意思是说：法国时装在古城闪亮登场。而汉语：“黄先生被明升暗降了。”的英文表述是：Mr. Huang was kicked upstairs. 这句英文的字面意思是：黄先生被踢到了楼上。Kickback相当于汉语中的“回扣”, 收取kickback是违法行为，但却也是社会现实。 

中国人在想不通问题时会寻短见，美国人在想不通问题时也同样会寻短见。上吊是寻短见的常见方式。中国人上吊时是往房梁上系一条绳子，站在凳子上，把绳圈套在自己的脖子上后，踢倒凳子，万事大吉。美国人也一样，英语to kick the bucket就相当于汉语中的寻短见。但是，从字面上看，美国人往脖子上套绳圈时不是站在凳子上，而是站在水桶上。Bucket是水桶的意思。

美国有一首十分流行的歌，名字叫. I get a kick out of you的意思绝对不是：我让你给踹了一脚。相反，I get a kick out of you的意境非常好，意思是：由于你的爱使我感到快乐和激动。
能够听懂英语中的俚语，并能够闲熟地用英语俚语表达自己，是掌握英语的最高境界。
